Barcelona's board expect to hear from coach Pep Guardiola in January over whether he'll stay on next season.
Guardiola likes to work with year-to-year contracts and El Mundo Deportivo says the board believe he will assess if his players still have the hunger to win titles after next month's World Club Cup.
Guardiola has always maintained he'll continue if he believes his players retain a winning desire, which was questioned by former Real Madrid Fabio Capello last week.
The Barca coach, if he was to decide it was time to move on, would make sure the club has enough time to find his replacement, hence the board's view that a decision will be made in January.
