The father of Thiago Alcantara has hinted Real Madrid tried to sign the Barcelonamidfielder this summer.
Thiago extended his contract at Barca to 2015 yesterday amid serious interest from Manchester United andChelsea.
Dad Mazinho also hinted at Real's interest when revealing: "There are always many situations and when there is a major player of these characteristics, there are clubs in Spain and abroad that are interested.
"What was discussed with them are private things."
He added: "At no time has he considered leaving. Barca have always remained in contact and shown confidence in him.
"The arrival of Cesc (Fabregas from Arsenal) will not change things because they're players of difference characteristics."
