Arsenal has announced the club has reached an agreement in principle with Barcelona for the transfer of Cesc Fabregas to the Camp Nou. Barcelona has also confirmed the deal, with the medical set to take place on Monday.

The move ends an eight year stint for Fabregas at Arsenal where he was the youngest first team player in club history and also the youngest goalscorer the team has ever had.

The move to Barcelona ends a long saga over Fabregas' proposed move to Barcelona pending the medical.

"We have been clear that we didn't want Cesc to leave and that remains the case," Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger told the club's official website. "However, we understand Cesc's desire to move to his home town club and have now accepted an offer from Barcelona. We thank Cesc for his contribution at Arsenal and wish him future success."

The transfer is still subject to Fabregas agreeing personal terms and passing his medical, along with the clubs finishing off the legal documents.
