Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola signaled the importance of his side's 2-2 draw at Real Madrid in the Supercopa first leg.

Barca traveled to the Santiago Bernabeu and managed to scrape a draw which gives the club a slight advantage for the return leg on Wednesday.

After the match, Guardiola praised his men for securing such an important draw despite often being under pressure from their opponents, something he attributed to the better physical condition of Jose Mourinho's squad.

"We managed a feat and our head managed to cope with our fatigue, this was a good result " Guardiola said after the match. "By Wednesday, we will continue without delay [in our preparations] to compete against Madrid and I hope our fans will help us get where our legs will not be able to."

Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas will undergo a medical with Barcelona on Monday, and Guardiola did not rule out the possibility of the midfielder playing in the second leg.

"Tomorrow [Monday], we will present him and then we will see if he plays on Wednesday," the Barca coach explained.

The 2-2 draw at Madrid marked Guardiola's 184th consecutive match in charge of Barcelona in which the Catalan club had more possession of the ball than its opponent.

"As long as I coach Barcelona, we will keep [playing] this style," Guardiola said after the match. "Surely Real Madrid can win, but not this time."
