Barcelona's David Villa: Scoring eight goals against Osasuna has given us huge confidence

Liga BBVA: Barcelona-Levante: David Villa; Javi Venta

Barcelona striker David Villa has expressed his joy at seeing his team trounce Osasuna 8-0 in La Liga on Saturday and claims that the scoreline will give them a massive boost in confidence.

The forward netted a brace at Camp Nou with Lionel Messi bagging a hat-trick. Xavi also found the target while Osasuna defender Roversio scored an own goal.

Villa is delighted with Barca’s return to form following successive draws with Real Sociedad in the Primera Division and AC Milan in the Champions League, and is hopeful of more positive results in the future.

"Winning 8-0 gives us huge confidence, and also to score two goals gives me great pleasure personally," the Spain international told AS. "We used this game to raise our self-esteem.

"It's hard to say that when you draw two straight games, you have played well. But I think we played well [against Osasuna], and even then we played well during those draws."

Villa will now begin to prepare for next week's clash with his former club Valencia in what promises to be a tantalising encounter at the Mestalla.

"Last year was not that good because I had a court hearing that day, but I hope it will be better for me next week and we get the three points,” he stated.

The 29-year-old then proceeded to touch on squad matters and praised team-mate Cesc Fabregas for slotting into first-team affairs so seamlessly.

"Cesc has been raised here," he enthused. "Barca is in his veins and everyone knew he would give us a positive contribution like he is giving now.

"If injuries are going to be less frequent, we should have a better season. Last year we came under a heavy load.”

Barcelona currently occupy second place in La Liga after their resounding victory, but Valencia's win over Sporting Gijon means they claim top spot instead.
