Bayern Munich great Franz Beckenbauer has stated that Barcelona are their own biggest rivals, as their success has put unbelievable pressure on the side.

Pep Guardiola's men have dominated both Spanish and European football over recent seasons and after some sub-par results recently, the Bayern Munich executive has explained the downfall of achieving such excellent standards.

"The great rival of Barcelona is Barcelona themselves. Why? Quite simply, the fans never have enough now that Barca have won so many things and have played so well; they will not settle for less," he told Mundo Deportivo.

The 66-year-old went on to praise the Camp Nou outfit and their talisman Lionel Messi.

"This team is the best I've seen in my life, they are the reason Spain won the European Championships in 2008, and the World Cup [in 2010].

"Lionel Messi is by far the best player in the world, the most decisive player for what he brings to the team and what he does individually," he concluded.
