Carles Puyol to return for Barcelona's Champions League fixture against Milan - report

The Catalan giants have been given a lift with the news that their captain is likely to be fit to take part in their Champions League group opener against Milan on September 13

Barcelona have been boosted by the news that captain Carles Puyol is expected to be fit to play in the club's opening Champions League fixture at home to Milan on September 13.
The defender has endured a difficult five months after originally injuring his left knee against Racing Santander back in January.

Puyol did return mid-April, where he played against bitter rivals Real Madrid three times in a fortnight, but the Spanish international had to undergo surgery after the club defeated Manchester United in the Champions League final on May 28 - a game in which the defender made a late cameo.

The 33-year-old resumed training earlier this week but is not expected to be fit in time for the Catalan club's next Liga fixture against Real Sociedad on September 10.

Puyol made his debut for Barcelona in September 1999 against Valladolid and has won 17 major honours with the team.
